If I were to start a team for FTE, would anyone be interested in joining? The majority of the teams put together consist of online technology forums, but I thought it would be really cool if we could get a Ford Truck team together to help crunch protiens in the name of cancer.
Anyone be interested in joining?
Ryan

well I punched "folding@home" into the ole google search engine and got these links. http://folding.stanford.edu/ "You can help by simply running a piece of software. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project -- people from through out the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer makes the project closer to our goals." http://forum.folding-community.org/
And some more. Not sure if this what he is talking about or not.
From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding@home
Folding@home (also known as FAH) is a distributed computing project designed to perform computationally intensive simulations of protein folding and other molecular dynamics simulations. It was launched on October 1, 2000, and is currently managed by the Pande Group, within Stanford University's Chemistry department, under the supervision of Professor Vijay S. Pande. Folding@home is one of the largest distributed computing projects.[1]
The goal of the project is "to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases."[2]

I've been folding for about 4 years now for team 32 (overclockers)
I'm ranked #193 in the team, #3841 in the project, and produce 400-650 points per day.
Alright, I got enough to make a splash... I'll see what I can get set up. I'll switch from my Tech Forums team and see if I can get this one rolling...
Yeah, it works a lot like SETI
Aaron nailed it. That's the exact project I'm talking about.

Thanks, Jake...I didn't want to be the first to ask Ryan what he's talking about.......
Heard of these "systems" before. An honorable pursuit. I'll "jine up" with the rest if you get it going........

No more likely than using your internet browser...
Basically, you download a 'packet' of information called a "Working Unit" and it can take between 5 hours and 10 days to finish that 'working unit.' When it's done, you upload your results to the website. Don't worry though, you don't have to watch it like a hawk or anything. it does all of this automatically.
Team # is 53449
Download the program here, and it'll allow you to enter a user name and team number when you configure it.
I recommend setting your processor allocation as high as you can without impeding everyday tasks. I have a dual core Athlon, so I allow it to use 80% of my processing clocks. If your system is a Pentium 4/Athlon XP or higher, I'd suggest 70%, and if your specs are lower than that, maybe 50%. If you need more processing power at any given time, you can close out of the program.
Thanks for anyone who decides to sign up!
Ryan
