that's good to hear. I'm doing this cause I lost my dad to cancer 11 years ago. It'll be 12 years on Feb 14th (Valentines Day) that he passed away. Glad to hear you got it up and running

it'll change. It always does that when you start it up. Once it gets going on the first one which usually seems to take about 1/2 hour it'll give you a better finish time!
I've got a laptop with 128 megs of ram running the p2124_lambda_5way_r on the Gromacs core at 100% right now. I've got 23 days according the the countdown timer with 849 out of 20000 frames done at last count. When I started it, it said 416 days, but I did some looking. So far,the only bug I have found is the erroneous ET at start up on the Windows GUI version and I'm quite happy that it's running at all on my laptop. Apparently, other *****'s for other OSs are formatted differently, showing percentages rather than ###/20000 as the Windows GUI version does. Soon, I'll have to get a full gig of RAM and max out the memory and see what she can really do.

Yeah, my main machine isn't getting slowed down a hair, but it might make other programs slightly less responsive on medium-low grade machines. There is an option where you can increase or decrease the priority of that program. right click the system tray icon, and click on configure. Click on the Advanced tab, and you'll have some options. It defualts to 'lowest priority' and you can up it by hitting the radio button that says "Slightly higher..."
Also, the bar directly beneath can be scrolled left or right to determine how much of your processing power you allow it to use. I have mine at 100%, because the program already considers itself a low priority.

I just loaded 2 gig of mem in the laptop the night before last. So it has plenty in reserve thinking about bumping the desktop up from 1gig. Might take it to four.
Ryan whats with the screensaver option, I tried to use it and set it for a 1 minute time to see what it did. at one minute i get an error report and and the the program shutdown????? so i turned that off and just run in the background. i had to turn the IE option on for the folding program to work on the laptop. oh well they're both up and running

Make sure you have the right version and then try it. Before you do, though, right click the tray icon and select display. If you still get an error, go to the site and get the GUI version.
All it is is the display. You can choose to run the program as a screensaver. This means the program runs, but only when the computer has been idle long enough for the screensaver to kick on. As I stated above, you don't have to set the screensaver to run it; you can turn it on manually.
Actually, as far as screensavers go, this is a pretty cool one.
You guys dont need that much memory to run folding, it does nothing to increase the folding speed of your computer. Its all about raw processing speed (CPU speed). Right now my folding core is taking 4168k of memory and the program is taking 724k.
There are WU that need alot of memory, but in the stock program setting it doesnt download them unless you tell the program you want them.
There are alot of tricks to the folding program that will optimize it for faster folding times.
