So far I have 3 computers and I got a couple of friends to put it on their computers too. Have to swipe my sister's laptop and sneak it on there without her knowing.
This stuff takes forever too, I've had it running nonstop since I posted and I'm only 60% done on my first 'WU'.

Damn! Not bad! Had it going since the 1st and just under 6% done......Even when I 1st joined, the group gave an estimated completion time of April, and the way it's going, it'll take about that long.
Questions. All "jobs" are not created equal, right?.....In other words, one member might get a huge, mega task while another gets one that's a little easier. Is that how it works?......I'm not really running a sucky system....it's an IMac G5 with the Tiger OSX.......no problems running lots of crap at the same time.
Just wondering how some members are 60% into their "job" and I'm just under 6%. Maybe I DO have a sucky system...(haha). Also, you don't have to have the program either up and visible, or up and "hidden", do you?.....Does it run automatically?....even if the 'puter is asleep?.......

I don't believe it runs when the computer is asleep. I've been folding for another forum for quite a while, and the work units are different. I've gotten some that take 4 hrs. and some that take 4 days.
I dont know about the mac version, but in windows there are two different programs.
1: screensaver version, only works when the screensaver is on (100%).
2: console version, it works all the time but you can decide how much processor power you want it to take(1-100%).
Some protiens are larger (more time to crunch) so you get more points.
There is a program called Electron Microscope 3 (EM3) that tells you the protiens name, point value, time per frame, time to complete, and estimated finish time.
I have 2 computers running now, and will have a 3rd when I get back on campus.
The program won't run if your computer is 'asleep.' simply don't allow it to sleep. go into the power settings to change it. You can let your monitor turn off after a given amount of time, but don't let it hibernate.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I ran the SETI program for several years, until switching from Windows to my Mac last year. I just never got around to putting SETI on the new machine.
As much as my heart and interest lie in exploring space, and the SETI project...for now the bio interests of folding probably help more.
I've got an XP machine (old, slow, 700mhz) that sits around doing quite literally nothing. The two Macs in the house (dual 2.0 G5 PowerMac, 1.67 PowerBook) are the machines that we use. The Windows box just sits in the corner and hums.
I've installed the console version on the XP machine, and allowed it to use 100% of the processor power. I've also allowed it to download / work on the "large" work units. I'm curious to see how it does.
I plan on installing the program on my PowerMac momentarily, and possibly on the PowerBook (though off / sleep time / laptop stuff may stop that.
Anyway...I'm curious to see how my XP box (motoguy.xp.box) fares vs the Mac box (motoguy.PowerMac.box).
problems happen but its not your computer, the servers you're trying to upload get overloaded sometimes, so just let the program run and it will send and recieve the WU when it can.
Windows XP and the screen saver, seems like they have a lot of problems with IE7, since anybody with with XP and automatic updates have this it seems like the programmers could fix it. It tried to upload about 20 times with no upload, have dial up and a job so no chance of doing it at an odd time
