"How Works a Load Distribution Hitch"

I found this link while responding to another thread in my home chapter, and it really does a good job of explaining how and why it works like it does. It also has some helpful links and advice for selecting the ideal hitch for a given application:

The effects are immediately obvious - if your back bumper dropped before you had one, it lifts it right back up to level again!

Almost has to be seen to believe it, but still a fairly simple idea.

I run one with my race car trailer and it is great. when i towed the trailer before installing it the trailer swayed a lot and was scary. now you don't even feel the trailer.

I need to get one for my trip to Cal and back but I would hate to see what the shipping would be to get it up here from etrailer. Guess I will have to check with my local RV Store...

If you get one, you should also look into a "SWAY CONTROL".

The two pieces work together to eliminate some of the most annoying (and downright dangerous) problems that trailers of any kind can have on the road.

But whatever you do decide - ensure that the load distribution hitch you buy has a ball for a sway control mounted on it. If it doesn't (which is kind of unlikely) the whole hitch head would have to be replaced if you wanted a sway control later on.

And be aware of this, okay? Most RV dealers have used LDH's that have been left with units that have been traded in! Some of them will sell those at reduced cost, especially if you want them to do the install for you - because LABOR is the motherlode...

This (14-0808) is the system I bought and the place where I bought it.

Trust me ... spend a few bucks on your hitch system. The thing you don't want to happen is to get your rig trashed because of a cross wind or a shifted load.

And, if I might interject another piece of advice ... carry more than 1 spare tire and make damned sure your jack will lift the trailer LOADED. Don't ask me how I know this ...

Husky makes good ones. If you want to go slap smooth overboard - buy "BLUE OX".

Pricey, but nearly indestructable.
