Went to have dinner with the wife and on the way home trans started acting up. Was Cruising along fine, stopped at a stop sign and truck wanted to die. Went to go again and truck was shaking and trans slipping. Truck will not idle in gear and the truck shakes when running, both in gear and in neutral, and o/d light flashing. No warning, No burnt trans smell. Is a 99 F-150 4.6 two wheel drive, with 154,000

 

Pull your codes. The OD light is telling you the computer has detected a fault.

You might have a missfire problem caused by a coil, or plug. Wont idle could be a idle control solinoid gone bad or stuck. Did all this happen at once, or did things start to happen over time.?

Sounds like maybe the converter lock-up solenoid is sticking. You need to have the codes read as Steve said.

Happened all at once. No service engine light has come on though. The torque converter idea popped into my head also but I have very limited knowledge about the newer transmission

 

With a flashing O/D light, there will be codes that can be read.
