48-50 Ford Truck Radio Trim
LAST EDITED ON 04-May-01 AT 04:03 AM (EST)[p]I understand that there was a trim piece that fit around the dash-mounted radio of 48-50 ford trucks. I have an original Ford truck accessory brochure that shows this but I have never seen one. Can anyone help me out - information, sourcing one out, etc.? It's the last piece i need to complete my project.

Which radio are you installing? If it is the stock radio for the trucks, It doesn't have a trim piece around it. It is the same radio as in the 49 Merc. I have a radio like that for my 50 F-1. If you are using a 46-48 car radio, there's a trim piece to fit the radio and dash. I have one of those trim pieces to sell. They also made a trim piece to put the 49-50 car radio in the trucks. There's one on Ebay right now, rather pricey, though.

The truck I have restored is a Canadian 49 Merc 1/2 ton pickup. The two radios I have are from Canadian 49 Merc cars (same as US Mercs, but made in Canada by Marconi). They conform to the shape of (and fit through) the hole in the dash. I understand you to say that there was no additional trim. The US Ford accessory brochure I have shows a piece wich seems to follow the curve of the dash but this is an illustration only (probably just the "artists concept"). One further question - is your radio a six button, 7 tube plus rectifier model (as opposed to five button, 5 tube plus rectifier)?

This is not about your radio (I have a 51 and can't help you), but a question about your mirrors. Did you use the original mirror set ups and were you able to find original round 6" NOS mirrors with the outside crimp ring? I need just one more to complete my truck.
Good luck

I have all-original driver and passenger side mirror setups (non-adjustable as opposed to telescoping) on my 49 Merc pick-up. I have only one original mirror head and it's pretty much gone, so I'm still looking. In the meantime I found a pair of mirror heads (from ?) that are very, very close. Let me know exactly what you need and I'll keep an eye out.

This isn't about the radio, but about the '51 mirrors.
I have what I beleive to be part of 1 miiror set-up for a '51-F1.
I'm not "restoring" mine. I just put on a set of stainless hinge mirrors. When I bought my truck the mirror had a clamp attatched at the hinge pin with a set-up simmilar to a bicycle seat holding a tube onto which was attatched a mirror. All painted black. If this is what you're after, maybe we can work out a swap or sale.
