Now for a can of revive-a-thread.

First off, I'll say that the Facebook login thing fails miserably. Automatically logs you out and you can't change anything in your generated profile. Generates an invalid email address, so you can't create a password.

Secondly, I've been here before, but only as teh result of a Google search. Now I need answers to questions that have yet to be answered. Yes...I searched. Search Link

I have a '76 F-250 with the 4.9L big six. I like this engine. The truck has a 4-speed, I want a ZF 5 speed, which I bought today for $300. Mine uses the hydraulic release bearing. This is also my personal preference. I was never a fan of 9 million moving parts for a clutch linkage, too many parts that can fail. Has anyone done the ZF swap and used the hydraulic release bearing? I need details and pictures. I'd really appreciate any help. I don't need another long-term project. That's why I have a Mustang.

Swap?
all you need to do is fabricate a lever the correct length(hydraulic) to your existing clutch pedal assembly. basically remove the "down" rod, and install a "forward" short rod off an 85-96 F150 firewall, and stick on the clutch master. you may need a reinforcement brace . but its a pretty clean job.

I think I know what you're talking about, and I've installed one of those braces before as a Ford Technician. Which side of the brake booster should the master cylinder be installed?

left

The clutch master will mount on the left of the brake from the drivers perspective. I ended up making this cross member. Mine is an NV4500, but the principal is the same.

Be sure to reinforce your firewall, they tend to crack. If you can cut a small section from the donor cab, that should do it.

If you are going to run headers, the shorties work pretty well with this setup.

Thanks. The reinforcing kit (for the late 80's trucks) from Ford is about $25, and I have plenty of sheet metal I can use for bracing. Fabbing a crossmember is no problem. I'm just waiting for everything that was ordered to come in. I'm staying with the big six, but even with a header, clearance isn't going to be a problem. Once I get started on this, I'll take plenty of pictures and make a write-up.

thanks

Keep us up to date. The 300 is a workhorse. I almost went that way myself. I had one pulled from the donor truck and preping it when I changed my mind and went with the 351W.

Definitely. Just about every truck I've owned has had a V-8, and the one that had an inline six was the one I enjoyed the most. Switched to a 4bbl and header, and it woke that truck up. Made it alot of fun to drive, and very unique.

I haven't gotten back to my truck. I hope to this fall. After a divorce I moved back home. The truck is 2000 miles away. I'm going to pick up some stuff in March and the truck in the fall. My plan is to use the hydraulic clutch from a late model ford.

I hope this thread is not dead.

I have a 75 f250 with a C6. I'm changing to a ZF. Will the ZF fit under the trans tunnel of a dent side?

I was wondering if I'd be better off cutting the tunnel out of an efi with a zf and just installing that on my truck. The ones I've seen seem to be higher at the f.wall, and I thought that may be an issue on our trucks.

I didnt have to trim much off my 77 F150,just where the lip is on the firewall where two pieces come together.I used a C6 floor pan because the shifter comes uo through the floorpan quite a lot further forward than the original 4 speed so a new hole had to be cut anyway.

Hi there, do you still have the images available?

I completed the install about 6 months ago. I did a thread with a lot of pics. I'm sure you can find it.
