alot of valve noise after changing the fuel filter...

i changed my fuel filter due to power loss...runs 100% better now....but my valves are making so much noise i am affraid to drive it......as soon as i hit an inclineand it goes to 3rd gear it is sad to hear.....it only has 44,000miles....i have nothing but problems with this truck i get one thing right and another one pops up.....i don't understand....i have tried 91,89, and 87 and still sounds like it's going to float a valve..or blow up....at this point i am sick of this so called SUPERDUTY....best truck ect...at this point i want a powerstroke or back to an F-150........this truck has been back to the dealership so many times...if i let off the gas it will quiet down but when i give it gas, PLUG your ears....unless you don't care about whats going on......please help........any advise is welcome....thanks chris.....

Chris how long have you owned the truck? Did you know the original owner that bought it new or was that you?? I cann't say that I've ever heard any valve/lifter/engine rattle on any of the newer vehicles much less a V10. I guess I shouldn't say that, my 00' lumina 3.1L sounds like a diesel for the first five minutes untill it warms up (damn GM piston slap). Sounds like more issues than just the truck, maybe prior maintenence. Heck I had a buddy rip off an oil cooler line when his truck had less than 5k miles on it, drained it down so far there was only quart of oil left in it, still runs good to this day and doesn't make a sound. It really seems like there might be more to the story.

i am the second owner...the truck has done alot of sitting in it's life time...i have all the history on it..the last two years it only got 3,261 miles put on it from 04 to middle of 06...so i talked with the dealer and they said they don't need a valve adjustment.. i have never heard of that but ok....i might just be pinging but i have tried all different gases...actane booster ect....it doesn't do it when i am easy on the gas pedal..but just a little more gas and all kinds of noise....what i dont understand is it never did it with the clogged fuel filter....only under heavy load... now with the new filter it does it all the time......i will see what happens when it see's the service tech tomorrow......

That is correct, there is no adjustment on the valves, they are basically torqued down but the valves sit on a post so they can only go down so far no matter how tight you torque them. I would try what forty said, pull your battery cables for 15-20mins and turn you lights on so it draws the system completely dead, this will reset your computer. Get some good electral contact cleaner and clean the MAF sensor located in between the air filter box and the throttle body. Check the knock sensor (you may need to take it in to do this) or just put in a new one. Seems awfuly strange that it started after a fuel filter change, wonder if it just not coincidence!

Check your exhaust system starting at the manifolds.

on edit-
Just saw your post regarding the performance tuner. Did this "valve" noise happen to appear when you installed this device? If so, have you removed the tuner's programming (restore stock program) to see if the noise goes away?
