ignition lock cylinder swap

Hey all,

Car didn't pass the technical control because my key can be pulled out without the engine to cut off.

So I have to change my lock cylinder.

Problem is, I have a Transponder key, but no one in Belgium can program these.

So could I order one without a transponder key from Rockauto and just swap these and keep the old key with the new key for the anti-theft?
Or wouldn't it work?

thanks

Transponder is not part of the key cylinder, what you can do is take a key with the chip, remove the transponder coil from the column around the cylinder and tape them together. Then stuff it some where under the column shroud and use any key/cylinder you can put in there.

Strangly enough, I cannot find the transponder coil. There is no ring around the cylinder

Take the column shroud off, it will be surrounding the hole where the cylinder inserts. Plastic ring with wires coming out of it.
