tranny shifts hard

i have a 95 ranger with a 4.0 and a a4ld tranny it seems to shift ok other than it downshifts hard .it just dont shift smooth at any time is there any adjustments?

Check the vacuum line going to the modulator. Here's some info.

my shifts much smoother if i let truck warm up before driving.

i am sure this is true with most vehicles though
