Ford's anomaly,,,, I ended up selling mine to an older guy, his wife loved the color, and they wanted an older pickup,, her dad had one like it, same color, I told them about the F130 deal, and if I or they ever found anything out, we had to pass the word! I am still convinced it was to skate by emissions for another year,,, or at least until the CARB got final restrictions set,,, in Kalifornia,, 1975 is the last year for no smog check,,, F130's were 1976 only it seems,,, mine had no CAT/air pump,,,, EGR only,,

I tend to think it was possibly a trial of some sort.

Ford still does a heavy half-ton option today.

In know of this "F-130" you speak of and have considered they guys asking price just to see if it worth owning an odd piece of Ford History, whether they know anything about it or not. I am very interested in showroom clean '86 F250 Rgcab 2wd with 6.9L and 4speed but this thing has definitely caught my attention. Some very interesting notes I see is the Color, many or blue or green that have been noted as "F-130" Contractor special?? Special heavy half?? What about special corporation run???

Ford has never been accused of reusing any certain part, from any certain year, to any certain vehicle this could have been one of those "yeah we can order 70 special order trucks for you" "well hell, its cheaper to have a short run of your build than it is to have a dealer pull out their special order book." "You sure you want 70?" "Well lets make 90 and paint the other 20 different, some other company will by them?!" Not trying to stir this pot any more than this thread has already but let be honest, Ford has always seamed to do some "different" stuff over the years. Just a personal experience the 63-64 5-bolt small block that is near impossible to find interchangeable parts for. Just my opinion, but I am scribed fo sho!

Ford could have just took a F-150 body and put F-250 axles under it to get around smog requirements.

I remember something about you couldn't get a 460 in a F100 in California.
460 available in 1973/75 F100's, not available in 1976 or later. CA had nothing to do with it, 1st Arab Oil Embargo (1973/74) did, because for the first time since WWII, people were concerned about MPG.

460 not available in 1979 F150's sold new in CA. I know this because when I went to order a new 1979 F150 Lariat (Crenshaw Motors in Los Angeles), the largest available engine was the 400.

When you swing by this weekend, you can look all this jazz up in my Ford Light Truck Parts Catalogs on microfiche: 5/1978, 3/1979, 10/1979, 10/1981, 10/1986 & 10/1988 editions.

But, you won't find one reference for an F130. There's no mention of an F130 in the Standard Catalog of Light Duty Ford Trucks (ISBN: 0-87349-411-3), either.

Hey guys, here's the link to the Claimed "F-130" around my area. For those of you know know this era best, does there seem to be any special trait, or similar decor to the other "F-130" trucks that have been brought up?

***1976 Ford F-130*** Yes Margret, it's an F-130 - Nex-Tech Classifieds

Has anyone ever looked under the hood of an F130 to confirm lack of emissions equipment?

Besides the PCV all US/Canadian vehicles came with, sold new in CA would have the mandated Evaporative Emission (Evap/Em) System, T/E (Thermactor Emission-smog pump), EGR valve.

An FTE member owns a 1976 F350 390 4V S/CS, it was sold new in NorCal (DSO 72). Member once claimed in sig that truck came from the factory with no emission equipment of any kind.

After arguing with member for weeks in P/M's and on the phone that this was BS, I finally decided to drive out to San Berdoo and look at it.

Raised the hood...and there it was...Evap/Em charcoal cannister mounted on frame rail, all the lines removed. Has a chrome "gypo" air cleaner with no provisions to attach any emission related parts.

EGR/carb spacer plate intact, EGR valve and transducer removed, spacer plate EGR holes plugged off. PCV valve in right valve cover, hose missing. "Gypo" oil cap on left valve cover has no provision to attach hose.

All T/E parts removed, threaded holes in heads for T/E manifolds blocked off with tapered plugs.

Bottom line: Truck came with all CA mandated emissions equipment originally, previous owner removed it all. CA smog tests all 1976 and newer vehicles, all the original emission parts has to be in place and in good working order.

If a vehicle cannot pass a smog test, it cannot be registered. There's no waiver if the parts are obsolete, it's fix it or park it. Member is up the proverbial creek without a paddle, truck hasn't been registered since 2008.

Since a sold new in CA 1976 F350 came with all this emissions jazz, why wouldn't a 1976 F130? Doesn't make any sense.

What about catalytic converters? By 76 both the F100 and F150 need cats right?

Does the F130 with the higher GVW have cats?

I am not doubting that truck may or may not be a "true" F130, however...

Missing F150 badges
Wrong Grille
Wrong Hood ornament
Paint doesn't look right.. too dark

good observation on the grille. guessing it has been repainted which would explain possibly the color, the missing badges, and a replacement grille.

which hood ornament should an f-130 have?

and would it really have f-150 badges anyway? if it was an f-130? or with 8 lug axles?

The F130 part shows up on the warranty and vin tags.

Similar to the way F110 means F100 4X4 with 5350 GVW in 1976.

That truck shouldn't have a hood ornament being a custom trim level truck
