Please show me where it says F130.

The plate doesn't look exactly like that, but pretty close.

The 38 axle is a 5300 lb 3.73 dana 60.

 

That is very interesting.

Something simular happened in the 1980 to 1986 truck forum.

A guy had an F-200, with F-200 badges and all.

The truck was made or built for/in mexico.

Perhaps it's something simular???

 

DSO 72 : Truck was sold out of the Northern California District Sales Office.

It may have been ordered special by someone...but all the features on this truck are standard, otherwise the DSO number would have been a minimum of 4 digits.

If I remember correctly...F130 has something to do with the chassis type, I'll know for sure by next Wednesday.

For some reason the listing didn't make it to the Paper OEM Ford shop manual which I have in front of me.

This F130 thing is a very unique topic.

 

The actual Ford parts book will have more info on chassis types than the shop manual. When I finally found my 73-79 microfische slides, they were so scratched I couldn't read them.

I ordered new ones...they should be here next week.

Well the GVWR is 100lbs more than my 77 F150. It is 6050 and has 5 lug wheels.

 

That is really wierd!! One of the things could have been a body swap onto a 3/4 ton frame, but than wouldn't explain the F130. Maybe the 3 is a defect in the stamping of the VIN. Is the VIN on your title the same? But then, what about the GVWR? That is too many coincidences to not be the original truck, But you never know. Either it is an oddity or someone has gotten creative to cause such a controversy/hoax. It would be nice to what the VIN says that is stamped on the chassis.

Seems to me you are all over looking one obvious possibility...VIN fraud..that door tag looks awful shiny for something that is that old. It wouldnt be the first time someone has fabricated a door Tag and VIN to try and fake out the DMV. I would verify that those tags match the VIN stamped into the frame....also look for signs that the truck has been repainted.

From my experience...when you register a vehicle at the DMV all they check is that the tag on the dash matches the one on the door and not if it matches a production VIN...there are even companies out there that sell new tags like that to restorers...I think that would explain the mysterious "Typo".

My honest thoughts....someone at some time put that fake tag on there to aviod registration costs or to cover up a stolen truck by changing the VIN and registering it a new state. Go to the DMV and ask for the Registration History on it and you may find that it was only recently put in the Sate's system from out of state.

Look carefully and you can see in that pic what looks to be the outline of the old slightly larger tag behind it on the edges.

 

Replacement rating plates are only available with the original rubbing of the VIN# or Rating plate.

The rivets holding that plate on in that pic are also OEM.

I can't believe in the time this thread has been here I never suggested contacting Ford for a copy of the build sheet with the VIN# of this truck like others have done.

Let them figure out if they can.

 

This isnt the first time someone brought up the question of a half ton having 3/4 ton running gear. It would be interesting to see some of the original paper work on this truck. Perhaps it was a special order fleet vehicle or some other special order.

 

we all know ford was not always good at documenting certain special made trucks.like fleet ordered trucks with abnormal powertrain,axles,etc.like the trucks special ordered by fire/rescue companies,municipale service trucks,forestry dept.,dept.of highways,military,and so forth i agree with dennis,contact ford,and see what they can tell you.

 

Either way, I would say he has a one of a kind truck. Not too many peeps can say they have a 1/2 ton truck with 3/4 ton running gear.

 

I would still think it would make it into the shop manual regardless of how rare it was?
