hole in fuel filter canister

yup i dont know how it happened, but I smelled fuel and pulled over and sure enough there was alot of fuel spraying out from right next to the bowl drain. I pulled the canister and there was about a 5/16" round hole in it. MY QUESTION IS, what the hell would make this happen? too much fuel pressure? im running about 80PSI and theres nothing around the housing that would cause stress...ANOTHER QUESTION, can I use a canister out of a 94-97??? or should I just stick with my year??? I put the old one up to an international 444 and the fuel lines were different. Im trying to find one at a junk yard cause the dealer ship wants $485.....Im stuck here, any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know aboput interchanging them but I would think that if you got the whole thing you should be good as long as its a 94-97. I know my 97 is a bit different than my 95 was but it should still work. Are you sure something didn't blow out of the canister?

If I remember right the 96 and 97 are the same, and the 94 and 95 are not compatible because of a different setup of the FPR, I just looked through ebay and did not see anything. I will keep my eyes open.

hey thanks for the replies guys, and sorry its been a few days since ive been on here. I Have been running around with my head cut off. well I had no luck with a junk yard find, so I broke down and bought a new fuel bowl at the stealership. I goofed on the price before...$485 was for the bowl and the FPR. $275 for just the bowl. 1997 F-350, the fella who owned the truck before me probly never changed the fuel filter and the bottom is all cavitated out (i guess form all the dirt sittin down there). the condition of the surrounding aluminum was strong enough to JB-it.

I do have another question for yas, the bottom of the Fpr, the round circle (about 1 1/2" wide), theres a snap ring that holds it in. well the oring got messed up and i used an air conditioning one. is this ok? i tried going to the dealership but i got no where. any ideas?

I think you are gonna have leaks, you need an oring that can handle diesel fuel, any parts store should have it especially one that works with tractors, you will need to take an old one in to match it.

HEY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! thanks for the replies!!! bkcowboss I had to button her up because i still had christmas shopping to do. and all the tractor supply stores, even the compressed air places are closed until after new years,, cant have her down that long. 1997F-350, I saw your pics on webshots and you had the fpr apart, and i didnt even think to ask ya what you used!! yeah i finally got her together with no leaks, had to super glue the oring on the round piece and then smush it in there to get the snap ring in the groove. and I stole your fuel pressure gauge idea, you the man
