I just bought a 92 f150 xlt-original paint perfect except hood which is original but flat and has lost its clear coat. Did it originall come with a hood insulator to protect it from heat? it has none now and i was thinking its due to the heat just baking the paint. Before i get it painted I wanted to see if one did come on it from the factory.. Thanks
Go to a ford dealership and buy one from the parts department. You can get one that fits 92-96 f150. My 93 doesnt have one. And yes the original pipe was 2 1/4.
Good luck 90% of parts I ask for at dealer (other than mecanicals relays ect.) they look at you strange and say that's a what year ? Hope you can get it. Good luck
Don't think the "insulator" does anything for the paint, it is simply for noise. And no, it is not a fire blanket either.
I don't know how it as determined whether it is optioned on these trucks, but the Ford cars anyway seem to have them for the most part except for Police (Special Service) cars. Don't recall Police cars all having faded paint on the hood - they just simply don't care about extra noise.
Dynamat makes a hoodliner which Summit Racing sells, part # DYC-11905 for $59.95. It reduces noise (like the rest of their products) and insulates against heat. Hope this helps.
