C6ae-r Heads

C6ae-r Heads
Do the c6ae-r heads have hardened valve seats on them? I found a set of them on a '78 f-100 in a junk yard, but when i cross referenced the VIN it was suppose to have a 300 I6 so some one changed the engine. I have a 352 i am trying to rebuild and have been looking for d2te heads cause i know they have hardened seats but do the c6ae-r have hard seats or would i have to get them hardened? thanks

The first valve job does away with the hardened seats on the D2 heads. I have been told that the C6 heads are the same as the D2's(sans hardened seats). Do a search in the FE/FT forum for more info about those heads. Chances are that those heads you found have been re-done in their past lives, and already have hardened seats.

I say buy em. I have done a touch of reading, it looks like they are a decent head (stock on a 428??). Drop em off at a machine shop, get the bowls opened up, 3 angle valve job, run em.

well I think you'll find that there are 2 types of C6AE-R heads... and I cant remember off hand exactly what the difference was...But I'am sure Glenn (FFR428) will read this and chime in..
But the better of the 2 are the heads that have an R cast in it at the end of the head besides having the C6AE-R between the two inner plugs !!

And Wes I had thought you were running the C6-R's on the PM427... Have you and Bill ever Dynoed that build yet?? I think Mike (Hypoid) picked up a set of the R heads awhile back too? I cant remember all the builds in the FE room and all the builds in Chilly's site also.... And at 54 its getting to be as short as my P*@ker !!
But I guess I'am still doing alright as I dont use books to refer too....Just what comes up from the Gray Matter thats left !! LOL..
Wes you better get on the stick Bro !! with that stang !! "IF" everything goes right we maybe running that 1471 High Helix 605" Bantom at Bakersfield come Mid Aug... If one of us can get Licensed again for better than 150mph.... But Allen still needs to get rid of the drum brakes on the rearend..and put some Wilwoods on it...and as of last night I find out he doesnt even have the Rag bar on the back yet !! and wants me to run it right off the trailer!! LOL Yeah RIGHT!! LOL...

What's the difference between the big "R" and little "r"?
Guys on this forum say these are good heads, but according to George Reid's book, they have 70-74cc chambers, 2.34 x 1.34 intake ports and 1.84 x 1.34 exhaust ports, 2.02 intake valves, and 1.55 exhaust valves, making them a fairly average head. The "L", the "U" and the C6OE-R are listed as having smaller 67-70cc chambers, making them capable of higher compression without machine work.
Is there something I'm missing?
