What next or will trans not hold it

I have a 97 PSD. Truck runs great. Has 3 in down pipe followed by straight pipe, cold air intake with K-N open filter. Edge evolution programmer and ez edge. Shimmed fuel pump. Smaller turbo housing. EGTs stay low no problem there. Its an automatic with 3.55 gears in rear end. So my question is will the trans hold any more towing a loaded gooseneck trailer or time for a HD transmission? Is there anything thats better than Edge?

from what I hear there are a few things better than the edge. A chip from either dp-tuner or tony wildman will be tops! I would address the transmission. A valve body from BTS would be the best bet. Then a chip from dp-tuner and tell him you have the VB and he will set you right up.

When i was running an edge, my egt's were terrible. Your egt probe is PRE turbo right? I also highly recommend Tony Wildman for a chip, you wont believe the difference. totaldieselperformance dot com

I have the probe just right after the exhaust manifold in the up-pipe. I will have to check that out. Thanks

Is the valve body hard to put in or is it something you would have done? Does it require dropping the trans or can it be done through the pan? Any info on this would help.

That doesnt sound too bad to do. Will the trans hold the chip on max while pulling a load with the new VB? I have heard the normal trans wont hold up if towing a trailer.

It should hold better than stock but I can't tell you for sure it will hold anything let alone a chip and towing. Thats the bad part about our trannies. hard parts can fail with no warning. but a VB should help the hydralic side of things.

The only problem you may have is the torque converter. The stock converter cannot handle the extra load, and the clutches can and will eventually burn up. The new valve body will help prolong the life of it though. I just did the entire transmission with an ATS unit, quad clutch billet converter, new valve body, and kevlar clutches. The truck was a whole new beast.

rebuild it

any proper beefing of the trans will help out. and yes the hard parts fail at any time and a valve body will only help as much as what the worn parts inside can handle.

with what your planing on doing and have done the unit will not last much longer without proper help. it's not a hard unit for any good diyselfer and we can supply you with all the parts you will need. and a great manual on doing it.

give us a call make sure you say your from fte .

ya Im expecting to do a torque converter soon. The truck had a rebuilt trans in it when I got it with 15K on the trans. But they didnt replace the TC so been looking at those also. Would like to do a complete trans and TC swap but thats not in the pocket book. So doing what I can afford now to prolong the life of the trans right now.
