I'm going to replace the weatherstiping on the doors of my 55. I know there are a lot of places to get these. Anybody out there done this? Where did you get them and how hard was it to install. What type of glue did you use? Any advice???
I bought mine for my 53 from jcwhitney, and they were cheap, but didn't fit very well. They were not even long enough to go around the entire door. It did come with the glue though, and it's just like that 3m weatherstrip adhesive you can buy in the tube.
I brought mine from Dennis Carpenters and I thought they were to short, so I cut one and ended up glueing it back in the same place, the other door fitted fine it just was a tight, they have been on for over 10 years with no problems
When applying the new weather stripping to my doors, I found an inexpensive spring loaded clamp to be a valuable third hand. It's the kind that looks like a clothes pin. I got one at Sears. After applying the glue to the 3 foot section I firmly pressed that section to the door frame metal and placed the clamp on the end to hold it for 5 minutes. Then I'd go back and do another 3 foot section the same way. The glue I got was from Walmart, in the automotive Bondo section. It's specifically for weather stripping. Biggest note is be patient, and watch out where you get that that glue. It's very sticky and messy.
