It's nice that Ford wants you to change the tranny fluid every 30K miles. But they have to give ya a converter drain plug to do it.
Wonder if this compromizes the tranny's life not being able to drain the converter.

most of the crud ends up in the bottom of the transmission pan, on the magnet, and on the filter and vavle housing---- not in the converter. if you change out the 5 quarts in the pan, clean things up and add a new filter, you will do worlds of good. do that every 40-50,000 and your o.k. never have a 100% new fill, but constantly refreshed.

Not all do not have a drain plug, even if you don't you can flush it yourself by pulling the line to the tranny cooler and running the engine it will pump the fluid out itself, then you add fluid until it runs clean.

My 97 has a drain plug on it but you have to crank the engine over until it lines up on the bottom and that's REAL difficult to do.
