Rear A/C problems

2002 Explorer XLT 2WD. The rear air conditioner in this thing makes a clicking noise constantly, even when the A/C is off. I can try all different combinations of the three A/C controls (front, overhead, rear overhead, hot/cold, vent/floor) and occasionally it will quit. I'm pretty sure it's the flapper doors in the rear driver's side unit. I'm sure there's a flapper for the hot/cold, and one for the vent/floor selections. Has anyone else's ever done this? Any hints?

My unit sarted the thump, thump, thump, I took it apart, found that the white unit, was causing the noise. Not sure how to fix. Put it all back, pulled the #25 fuse, from under the driver side dash. Did this, until I get the energy to fix it the right way, (buy the part), and put it in.

Not sure jdm, my sound is of a door thump, not like a clicking. The door sound(that i have) is like the ac/heater door is on a constant cycle, back and forth, back and forth.

No, since it is just the wife and myself in the truck, haven't given the rear heat/air problem any more thought.

Wow tnab. That's an ooolllld thread.
This is a very common problem and has been covered countless times.
The rear blend door actuator has failed. Buy a new one from Ford and replace it. Job done.
Avoid the Dorman brand aftermarket BDA. They seem to have a high failure rate.

OK I did even look at the date. It was the first thread that addressed the problem I have. Hate to bother people with a new old question without searching first. Thanks for advice.

Yea, it's easy to miss the date when you search for threads. Done it myself. No problem.
