My 2000 7.3 is box stock and I found that at from 55 to 67 I easily average 21 mpg on the highway. At 68 the story changes drastically from 21 to about 19 for a 1 mph change. I suspect there is some turboing going on at 68.

If you drive 67 rest your trip meter and recheck the fuel. I have also confirmed the 21+ mpg on fill ups. In town combined I average 17+ and when towing a 7000# load at 65 it does drop to 14. But keep in mind going above 67 does cost you fuel.

In the Excursion, we put $1100 worth of grocieries from Aldi and Acme, a microwave cart (dissasembled in cart) a new pot and pan set in a carton, several bags of assorted stuff like clothes, 3 packs of 48 rolls toilet paper, 3 12 roll packs of paper towels, two new hand toolboxes, 2 cases of motor oil, and 2 cases of trans fluid. Oh yeah, and new broom. (there's still more I can't remember.)

All this fit ibehind the 3rd seat. still had a small amount of room.

I dare ya to do that with anything else.

To JHooch.....

You hit on a couple of things I had been wondering about. I have a '99 F250 Ext cab. I was new to Fords when we got it but now would have no other. I feel I would like a Expedition or an Excursion but don't know enough to make a wise desision. I carry dogs showing, vet etc I also have a two horse trailer (fat horses) so I will plan on towing. I drive 12 hours to visit my children. I am 5 foot tall but love my trucks. Do you have any words of wisdom?
