53 panel truck

I have a 53 Panel truck just about finished with a frame on restoration. I rear doors are ok but I would really like to replace them. There was some very bad welding doen in the past and the look is bad.

Good luck on finding replacements! I have not seen any rear doors offered since I have had my panel, and would expect they would be more expensive than the cost of repairing. Assuming the window areas are in useable shape I think you are going to need to repair what you have. Fortunately the doors are not a complex shape so are not too difficult to repair. Put up some pix of your problem areas and we'll see if we can help. I recently repaired the lower hinge attachments on one of my doors that was damaged and poorly repaired, check out the pix in my gallery.

Oh, and welcome!

Good luck on finding a set of doors for your panel. The only other part harder to find is a set of original seats. If you have decent doors I think you're going to have to repair them. If they're repairable you're ahead of a lot of people. Good luck.

I've got to agree, the rear doors are hard to find and can be very expensive to purchase if you find them. The cheapest I saw a set for was $400 and they needed work. Hopefully you can repair yours. Does your panel have original seats and rear bumper?

Original seats? Heck, I threw out the originals from my '55 panel in 1997 when I couldn't give them away.

Is that storage shelf which mounted behind the driver on the left wall worth anything? I saved it.

Oh well...

I have never seen a set of doors for sale. i had one original seat which was gone. After looking for 2 years I finally gave up and bought a couple of new replacement step van seats. They look really good in the truck.
thanks

I had to buy a whole Panel truck just to get one good rear door. I got really lucky. I did a part trade and part cash for the Panel. The Panel cost me a total of $450.

I kept the one rear door that I needed, then sold the 5.0 motor and tranny that came with the Panel for $400, and finally sold the Panel with one bad door for $1000.

Deals like that come only once in a lifetime... (Bob, insert your remak(s) here)

The storage shelf (I can't think of a better name for it)...bolts to the left wall, elbow height or so, extreme front (in the first section), so the driver's left hand could reach around and access it while sitting normally in the drivers seat.

I for got to say something about the bumper. Front is straight that seems to appear in catalog as a rfeplacement. Rear on my truck is more of a wrap around. Never seen a g ood pic of this year to see if straight or wrap around is correct? Any ideas"

The wrap around rear bumper is specific to the panel and correct. Another of those panel specific hard to find parts.

If you want one that badly, why not import one from the states? Grabber just did that with a PU. Altho the sale was a hassle due to an dirtbag seller, the actual importation didn't seem to be an issue. Bigwin had a perfect one for sale a couple months ago.

Jim,
This one just showed up yesterday on Craigslist. I don't know anything about it, but it may be worth a call. Price sounds reasonable.

1954 FORD PANEL TRUCK No Motor, Transmission or Title $1200.00/OBO
Call Chris or Ken 972.276.4299 (Garland)

Good Luck!
