'06 F-350 King Ranch, all stock, 30,000 miles. At 27k it started overheating when towing. Turns out the gaskets were rusted (from anti-freeze?), and the heads were warped. It was in the shop for 1 month getting the heads and gaskets. 3 weeks after I got it back, truck started to 'wobble' like it had a loose wheel. Pulled over onto a side street and it died. Got it started and limped into a friend's driveway. Next morning it blew white smoke and would only run for about 45 seconds, and very roughly at that. Towed to dealer. They said that cyl #1 and/or cyl #2 injector(s) failed. Should be installing the new ones today.

Hopefully the bad injectors didn't cause any other engine damage.

I've owned the truck since new; bought in Dec '05. Truck has been in the shop approx. 45 days in 1st year of ownership (and counting).

cbeastwood,
I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with your truck. As far as I'm concerned, there is no way in Hell that ANYBODY can justify that happening. Nobody should have to worry about whether or not they're gonna make it home in a $50K truck. That's just BS. Hopefully all works out.

Quite frankly, I have found that all the problems with my truck were induced by the stealership that I've has serviceing my truck lately. The dealer I bought my truck from was VERY good, but I moved out of state, and the local stealership here thinks that everybody that comes into his shop is there to let them rip the customer off............

My truck has been VERY reliable.........as I said, the only problems I've had with mine is the people I've had working on her lately.

Then maybe it's a good thing I change my own oil and filters. Makes you wonder in the diesel mechs are actually ford certified.

Just picked up my 07 F350 this past friday. Its been my 3rd 6.0 litre. The first one I had was stolen, it had 45000kms, no problems with it. The 05 I just traded in had 76000kms, no problems. The 07 I just acquired is in the shop with 120kms on it. 3rd time I drove it, the insturment cluster went south. I think its just luck of the draw guys. Win some and you lose some.

True that you win some and lose some, but unless you have plenty of spare cake, I don't think 50 grand is something to gamble with.

He says I should run from the 6.0L engine and wait till the 6.4L comes out or go back to the 7.3 in an older truck. He says that they are seeing lots of engine issues with injectors and head gaskets and sensors being blown because the engine has been over done for it's ability. What is the pulse out there in the Ford nation. Is this something that is being seen alot. I visited other dealerships and their sevice areas and they all stated the same thing that they are seeing an overwhelming amount of engine work on these new 6.0L engines for the F series diesels.
I would say your injector problem is going beyond the recommended OCI. Drain the Amsoil stuff out, replacing it with Shell Rotella, or Delo, and it will be fine!!

Update

Well since creating this thread in Dec. 06, I had my trcuk out for 2 weeks and the early week of 2007 it goes down again. It had a valve cover oil leak at the gaskets, cyl # 2 & # 4 had injectors go out blown seals, the electronic sensor that talks to the injectors for cyl # 1 & 5 was telling the injector to dump too much fuel, and a blown battery cell. I got the truck back on Jan. 22 had the truck on the road till the 30th and it gave up again. They are telling me that the head gaskets are out again and that the injectors in Cyl 3 & 5 are shot. It could be another 2 weeks till I get the truck back. Listen, thanks to all the comments on the low mileage 2006 trucks that have had no problems yet! I bought the truck on the last week of August of 2005 and it drove well until I reached the 53,000 mile mark, and then the last 3 months of ownership it has spent more time at the dealership then in my driveway or on the road for me making me money. I am a commercial roofing contractor and drive around 275 to 325 miles a day so in a year that can get up to 60K to 70K miles, this while the typical driver will only rack that much in their 3 to 5 year warranty period and thank they had a good truck. I need reliable vehicels that I can count on and that can get me and my crews to and from our job sites. I don't care what the cost of that vehicle as long as it can perform and hold up. I still have a 99 F-250 that has nearly 400K miles on it and with the service records it has broken down 5 times in the 7 years of ownership, glow plugs, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor lock-up, and some minor items. I have a 2003 F-350 that has 290K miles on it and no major problems engine related just the usual suspects of worn out parts, I had a 99 F-350 that had 310K miles that I upgraded too to get this new 06-6.0L and man I wish I had kept it. I have discovered that with this the Ford and Navistar(International) are in some judicial dispute over who is covering the enormous cost of the warranty that is going on with this 6.0L and they are at odds with each other. While the 6.4L is nicer and quieter and has the twin turbo pkg, I also know that therer cannot be any modification done to the engine for performance or fuel economy or the truck will shut down. As well the exhaust is designed with new sensors and computer information check points in the system and when you remove any on of the sections of the exhaust then the check engine light will come on and eventually shut down. This information is from the southwest engineer of Ford/Naivstar diesel productions who actually came to the central texas area to start investigating the issues to see where they went wrong with this 6.0L. And he gave me some insight on the new engine and the possible answers to the 6.0L as to why and what. Anyway, I will keep posting to help all out as I can. Good Luck with the truck you are driving.

The bottom line is that Ford is dropping it. Would they do this if it was a reliable power plant? The 6.0 had a very short run, it does not take a brain surgeon to understand that this is probably not the best power plant for long term users or for people that are going to work really work the truck.

They'd probably still use it if it weren't for the new emissions requirements.

I think you are correct. The engine underwent numerous engineering updates as of 01/06 build dates.
