Will a 2001 4.2 bolt in place of 98 4.2?

I have a 1998 F150 Extended cab truck with a 4.2L V6. I can get a used 2001 4.2 engine for my truck fairly cheap. My question is will a 2001 or newer 4.2 be a direct replacement for a 1998 4.2? Everything I have found lists 97-98 4.2, 99-00 4.2, and 01 -05 4.2. Is there some major difference that would stop me from using an 01. My 4.2 is shot and I can get a low mileage 01 for less than a master rebuild kit. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John
