Which ones - front pads or rear links?

There are a total of 6, if you want to replace them all. Four flat pads and the two links at the rear. Some people have problems with the links, especially the rubber blocks that go between the links and the mount. I did my links one at a time, just jacked the cab under the strong beam that runs across it (under the gas tank). I'm not sure there is any trick to the whole process, other than for the four pad mounts you need to have all of them loose at once or you won't be able to get any clearance to pull out the old and stick in the new.

Ditto on what Ross said.

The whole process if fairly painless (as long as you disregard the dust and crud falling into your eyes)

No, but it helps. You have to have the bolts for the front 4 completely removed to replace their pads, but do that one at a time (removing the bolts completely) so you don't have the cab move completely out of position.

The careful application of a frosty beverage (or two) sometimes helps the situation also.

When I got my truck, the previous owner had taken a smoke wrench to all of the cab mounting bolts in order to take the body off of the frame (he never got that far) I got the truck and had it running and driving before I noticed that I had absolutely nothing but gravity holding theh body on....ooops

Installing the mounts was fairly straightforward. As Ross stated, just move around the truck one at a time. Use a floor jack to raise the cab slighty at the corner you're working on and slip them into place. The links in the rear might take a bit of wiggling but they aren't bad.
