Tuesday I heard a growling from the rearend. Pulled of the dr rear tire and drum and guess what I found packed in the wheel seal and bearings, mud off all things. Can't imagine how it got there.? It also took out the wheel bearings, shoes and hardware, and I fear the worst when I pull the diff cover. The rear end was bone dry and I checked it last week before we went out on sat. and it was fine. This weekend I'm gonna tear it all down and hope for the best. I Will keep you all posted and this will not discorage me from going out again.
Sorry too hear about the mud in the wrong places. Still haven't washed mine, was figuring it'd help hold it together. I have a 60 in the garage that the ring gear ate through the rear cover but any of the parts inside your more than welcome to if you need them. It's a 70 and I have a wider 79 in my truck now.
WHAT! Uh oh... bad... btw, if you need a hand at all I am free after 4 pm everyday- just so everyone knows I am willing to help- Just let me know- I am doing alot to my truck coming up, banks headers probably, new y-pipe and exhaust, as well as the zoodad mod, and a chip- merry christmas to me.... and a new radio!! (my cd player doesn't work in my truck)
Hey guys, speaking of mud...
Some folks call me a double agent. Others refer to me as a crap stirrer or instigator. And then there are always those that call me... Well, forget that one.
Anyway, back to speaking of mud, take a peek over here http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/556615-4x4.html .
Looks like there might be some inter-chapter competition coming down the pike. He he.
It's fun to be a member of both chapters. He he he.

Friday afternoon Im gonna pull it apart and see what all happened. Hopefully nothing more than seals, bearings and brakes. Thanks for the offers, I will let ya know.
Hurray, no damage...I cleaned everything really well and turns out only the seals needed to be replaced. Must have been enuf mud on the shoes that the gear oil never got to soak in. Cleaned the bearings and no scratches, nicks, nothing. The diff. still had plenty of clean fluid in it. So I am officially ready for more offroading.
