Blow by question ...

Hi i have 1995 PSD with 150,000 miles on it ,i have a fare amount of blow by it constantly smokes from the value cover when the oil cap is removed. i heard some blow by is nomal ? does this sound like i have to much blow by ? My freind has a 2000 PSD I checked his truck, he has 135,000 miles and he had very very little blow by ? is this because his truck is the newer 7.3 ? Or mabey just because his rings and cylinders are in better shape ?

I am not sure that it matters, yeah you get blow by, if it runs then roll with what you have. I don't think that there is much you can do about it if it is blowing by without a rebuild.

One thing to try to reduce the smoke coming out of the oil fill cap is to remove and clean your CCV screen. If your CCV screen is plugged, it cannot vent to the intake and it has to go some where.

On the driver side of the engine on top the valve cover. Its a metal black metal box with two screws on the top of it that screws on to the top of the valve cover and a short rubber hose that connects to the bottom air intake to the turbo. The screen is inside of the black metal box.

Its just a metal mesh screen. Pull it out and clean it up good with brakeleen or some other solvent.
