'60 292 Smokes badly!!!

My 1960 F-100, 292 Y block is smoking real bad, and I'm getting a frothy oil from the crossover pipe flanges. Any ideas?, valve spring, valve seals or guides??? I love this site, I have learned so much about restoring my baby. Also, any ideas on places to get leaf springs and front turn signal lenses? Thanks so much. Gary

If it started all of a sudden, a possible cause is a clogged oil drain hole at the back of one or both heads. Rather than drain, the oil pools up and then gets sucked down the rear intake valves. Just pull the valve covers and see if any pooled oil exists. Actually a common problem on well worn Ys. Easily cleared with a stiff wire. If not clogged drain holes might be something more serious like worn rings, eroded umbrella seals on the valve stems, or badly worn valve guides. Good Luck

It has smoked since I trailered it home from Maine this summer, but not a real "oily" smoke, more like running super rich. I'll pull those covers off this week and let you know how I make out. Thanks for your help, Gary.

Hi, The lenses are also available here on this site's online store. The online store is what helps Ken Payne pay the bills, and keeps the rest of this great site available to all of us for free.

Hi Kenny and Wayne. Last week I did order those lenses on this site, I just didn't realize it was the same site. When I got your posts I checked it out and low and behold....
Thanks for your posts, I am really enjoying this message board. Gary
