I have a buddy with a 97' Powerstroke that will idle fine but when he takes off it wil die within a couple minutes. He changed the fuel filter again & said this didn't help. I had a 96' but never had any troubles with it so I can't help him much.

 

does it react to the throttle pedal? will it rev up past idle? if not probably a bad tps. if it will rev probably a bad cps or jelled fuel.

 

It will rev & take off but that is about it. I know it wasn't jelled.

 

how do you know? have you tried adding some diesel kleen?

 

sounds like a fuel starvation from the tank prior to the fuel filter, or possibly fuel pressure regulator screen. Do a search through the forum and you will find some good info, I will try and search tomorrow and post some links if you don't find anything
