Axle seal 89 F250

How do I replace the axle seal on my 1989 F250 - full floating rear axle. It is leaking 90w and I have the hub off. Do I pull the axle, and if I do, does it come off by removing the bolts on the hub. Thanks for the help.

Yes remove the 8 bolts holding the axle in. If I understand your question right. Than you have to remove the large nuts holding the hub and wheel brg's before ya get to the seal

Thanks Artic Y - that's kind of what I thought, I just have never worked on a 3/4 tons brakes before. I already have the wheel and the brake drum off, and it looked like I would have to pull the axle. Is removing and replacing the seal a big deal, or should I think about putting it back together and take it to a mechaic. I would like to do it myself, but I don't screw it up.Thanks for all your help.

Sometimes ya get lucky and can pry the seal out of the hub. But most times you will have to drive the inner race out with the seal. You can destroy the race if you don't use the right punch and know where the slots are to put the punch. I would recommend a repair manual and new bearing and brakes while it is apart for both sides. If one failed the rest won't be far behind.
