Clock-Spring - Did it myself!

Well I just finished replacing my clock spring. I had no horn, cruise, or air bag before. Everything is working correctly now. The only thing I want to ask is about the old clock spring. I tool it apart and found that it was wound backwards for two rounds causing a kink that eventualy just broke the cable. Question, do you think this was done knowing it would make around 100K miles and then need to be serviced? or just someone at the factory is that stupid? Anyway, I had no problems with the airbag, just diconected the battery at the pos side. I was real suprised to find there were no special tools required to pull the steering wheel, just a two jaw puller. Disassembled most of the drivers side dash to have room to work but over all not that bad of a deal. Thanks for all of the help guys.
