Make sure that you get a large tranny cooler on your truck. Plowing can heat up a transmission quickly and the trannys in the Rangers don't care for heat at all.

I'm seeing more and more small trucks and suv's with plows on them. I see a guy with a Jeep, plow on front and back, doing a lot of driveways by where I work. The plows look like normal weight plows, not light weight.

In 1984 I bought a Meyer 7' plow for my 1979 Chevy LUV. It was a bolt-on installation with kit and brackets by Meyer. In 2005, the truck needed to be retired for restoration so I wanted to move the plow to an S10 Blazer. I was told that Meyer no longer supplied any installation kits for small trucks of any kind. Perhaps this is why we don’t often see plows on later model Rangers. A few months ago I bought a 95 Ranger 4.0 4X4 5 spd manual with a Meyer snow plow already installed. Most of the equipment is Meyer except for the immediate interface with the Ranger frame. The vehicle is in excellent condition, 150K miles. It works really well but I happened to notice the owners manual says in big bold type--DO NOT USE FOR SNOW PLOWING. My 2001 manual says the same thing and in addition, says I can't use it as an ambulance. Darn!!
I decided to write this because the LUV 4X4 4 spd manual, a really small truck-smaller than a Ranger or S10- performed admirably for many years doing my private plowing. With this experience in mind, I am comfortable using the Ranger to do my own plowing but I would not consider using it for commercial plowing. I live in the snowbelt south of Erie, PA so we get a lot of snow. Even though I usually plow 6”-8”, I try to be as careful with the equipment as I can. Maybe the most important consideration might be a little good fortune and a good amount of operator care.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I also once heard that on new vehicles, if it isn't purchased as a vehicle and doesn't state from the factory you can mount a commercial plow on the front end, all warrenties are null and void. That is what makes that SnowSport plow so nice and handy. It doesn't void any warrenties. Heck, the whole thing, including the mount only weighs 210 lbs.

It's not me, it's Ford, the designer, engineer, and builder.

All these plow manufactures would not offer plows it it was going to hurt something. Afterall, they will get sued in our sue ready society.

They made plows alot lighter just for these little trucks

be ready to replace your front end components at the end of the season. It can be done but the truck won't like it all. like others have said, upgrade or install a secondary transmission cooler.
