Volare IFS for '49 F-1
put out a message to cotton@intertex.net.
Carlos Cotton.... Carlos has done this swap and it is different than the 53-56...the frame is narrower on the F-1... but he has the details and some good pictures also..you can see my notes on an install on the Tech article page
hope this helps

Volare IFS for '49 F-1
I did this swap about six months ago. F-1 frames are narrower than the F 100's by a couple of inches though. Some frame notching and boxing is required for steering box clearance. The Volare unit is welded to the frame after some additional frame notching is done. I have a set of templates that I bought from a company that does these swaps. If interested in the templates let me know.

Hey, I don't suppose any of you guys that are familiar with the Volare swap have had any experience with the Gibbon fiberglass torsion bar kit. too, have you? I'm leaning heavily toward this kit because of the mostly bolt-in installation and the fact that I already have a suitable donor car. I am equipped and capable for the fab work to do the Volare, but hey, I'm lazy and I want this DONE. Not to mention the fact that I'm `petrified of`screwing up the frame and not being able to find another or repair it. I do, however, want this truck to be A-1 when it's finished and I'm willing to swap my Plymouth Fury for a Volare subframe at the wrecking yard if there is a serious advantage. Thanks in advance for any comments!

I looked at the Gibbons kit myself. I went with the Volare in my 53 because my frame was already hacked on by a previous owner. I frequently hear others refer to a Volare install as quick and easy. It isn't rocket science but it is quite time consuming if you want it to be pretty. A lot of filling (MIG) and grinding if you want the clip to look like it grew there in the first place. There are also a few angles that need to be right. If you have no experience MIG welding and fabbing. Find a buddy with some spare time that does or choose a route with mostly bolt in installation as you seem to be leaning. Just my two cents.
