Strange Engine Noise

My 97 F-150 with a 190k has developed a noise I can't explain. It seems to be comming from the top right. I want to say it is a knocking sound that does increase with the rpm of the engine. I am thinking lifter but it does not have the classic tick, tick, tick of a lifter. It also seems to come and go. Latly though it is more often than not. I can hear it in the cab or outside with the hood up. It seems to be a knocking sound that has a worble to it. If that is even a word. Any thoughts anyone.

Thanks in Advance.

I would get it checked out by a mech. Do you know anyone who is, or a friend of a friend maybe? Ticking noises are not really of a concern, but knocks and clunks may be an indication of something wrong.

What engine do you have? You sure it's not a broken exhaust manifold stud? Those small exhaust leaks can sound like engine noises too.

Opps, sorry. It is a 4.6. No not the exhaust. I had that problem before. It is not a ticking noise.

Thanks

Loose motor mount that slightly moves the engine and makes a clunk from time to time?

I did this. Poured in a quart of Lucas oil treatment. Now the noise is still there but not as loud. I assume I am looking at a new engine.
