I've been, not so patiently, waiting for some #'s with injection.....and a decent distributor- wondering if the bad one was one of the hei units. I'm about to trash the cheap one I have on the wheezer.

I have some bad news to report on the EFI 434. We were not able to reproduce the numbers that we got with the carb, then we lost a head gasket.

I am going to head back home without my motor. Tim is going to replace the head gasket, and dyno it again with a carb. I will install the EFI, when I get it home.

It appears that the EFI setup is barely equivalent to a 650 CFM carb. If I want to get more out of it, then I need to improve the TB/intake system. First I have to find where the restriction occurs.

That is bad news. That looked like a sweet setup.

I wonder what took out the head gasket? Maybe Tim will be able to tell.

The head gasket might have started leaking when we had some initial timing issues.

The setup is still OK for moderate performance or a smaller motor. If some restrictions can be eliminated, it could do better. The Lightning MAF only supports about 770 CFM, which is surprising. I am going to investigate that as well as the pressure drops.

Do you think you may have lost power with the EFI because of a head gasket issue during dyno run?

That is a possibility! Tim is going to fix the head gasket and dyno it with a carb. Then I will take it and try to match the dyno air flow and manifold vacuum with a decent fuel/air mixture.

what brand/part number head gasket was that? i read quite a few posts of the "top shelf" exotic graphite laminated steel shim yada yada yada brand gaskets failing quickly after a build. i like the Fel-Pro 8347PT-1, they list it as an "economy" gasket but it's my go-to favorite. i ran an 11.5:1 rattling Cleveland on goat piss pump regular in between stops at the airport and those head gaskets never gave up!? some guys get irate about using any coating on a head gasket, i've used them with aluminum spray paint, spray copper and dry, never had a failure any way i installed them. the spray coating even made it possible to re-use a pair once when a rod bearing overlapped 3 days into a build. the rods were not checked out and i ran them as-is. Doh. but the head gaskets ran again without issue!

i'll be surprised if you say they were the cheap Fel-Pro Blues!?
