I don't know either.
The Payload weights in the brochure show the truck at about 4200 lbs.

Maybe people are mixing up axle ratings with Curb weight?

1979 F150 long bed, 300 six, 3 speed manual, no power steering, no A/C, no radio, no insulation, steel tool box, weighs between 4250lbs to 4330lbs with me in it (count me for about 230). Depending on how full the tank is and what tools I have with me.

Or so says the scale at the local scrap yard.

The new trucks weigh so much because of all the crap that people think they need that has nothing to do with moving something from here to there.

Just to add..... it is a 4x2, single gas tank with no options (aka stuff to break)..... except the sliding window I put in last year (got it cheap from the local scrap yard).

fiberglass weighs more than sheetmetal because it has to be so much thicker to have the same strength- they only went to fiberglass panels because they cant rust- and most people would rather have a vehicle that looks good than actually having any strength.
a little off topic but i saw a new chevy 1 ton dually yesterday that got rear-ended and the side of the box shattered... didnt know they used fiberglass boxes now

Huh, these trucks weigh a tad more than i figured they would. My 77 flareside 400-c6 weighed 4700#s. Not sure what the one ton weighs.. but its pretty light. our 03 SD weighs just over 6k.
My 85 ranger w/v6 sits at 3900

This page is for my '75 F150 2wd...

Don't know if that helps or hurts. ;)

Notice there isn't 4wd information because Ford hadn't got around to offering
the F150 on 4wd yet. Same with the 302. Not sure if they ever did offer it in
'75. This sheet came with my parts truck, my original's been written all over. LOL :)

Almost every new vehicle ways more than there prior models. Due to them being packed full of ****. 8-way power seats, giant consoles, huge dashes, huge rims and tires, and the 1000 lbs of insulation packed in every open space.

JUNK!

people can't seem to understand how I get better or just as good of mileage with a 20 year old vehicle! Weight and emissions- Thats how.

Hell I get 30 mpg with my 93 voyager minivan with a cracked head (burns water, etc) that I run the hell out of.

New=Junk

That does sound light at 3720. I have no idea what your truck actually weights, but I took my 81 Toyota 2WD Pickup to our local scales and it came in at 3505lbs with me and the misses. and the dog, the 90 Corolla came in at 2880lbs. I think since the japanese trucks are getting closer to full size the american trucks are getting ever larger. way larger !
