rear end gears ???????

hi everyone , i have a 97 f150 4x4 with a 4.2 . not looking to dunp alot of money into it but would like more power . can anyone tell me what size / ratio the stock gears are in the differential ? someone told me that if i put 3.73 gears in the rear end it would do what i want . any thoughts or ideas ?

Get the code off of your door sticker ang go here https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...de_Chart_.html to ID your ratio. A 3.73 would make a big improvment in the "seat-of-the-pants" performance. Too bad you're not closer to North Carolina, I'd make you a real deal on a complete 3.73 rear axle!
Since yours is a 4x4 keep in mind you have to do both ends........

Go with 4.10's....it's only a 4.2.

Im going to throw 4.56's in mine...
