Cleveland motor mounts

Are cleveland motor mounts unique? I need a set to install a motor in my 74 truck. Is there another motor that will interchange? I posted a message about a 400 for sale so I went and bought it last night and it turned out to be a cleveland or so it seems so far. The bellhousing is small, the intake looks just like the one I already have, the motor mounts from a 351M on my other truck don't match, so it must be a cleveland. Who sells this motor mounts for a cleveland to go in a '70s truck?

they are the same mounts as for a 302 or 351W if you need 2 bolts on each side going straight up into the threaded holes in the block. sometimes you need to change the frame perches.

Oh boy, I got the motor mounts but I have not tried the perches. The prevous engine was a 390. I think I might need to change them. Will the 351m/400 perches work?

Block/head casting numbers should tell you what year the engine is, as all three look similar.

that i do not know. i would start a new thread so everyone sees it instead of being under this title. i'd also use the 302/351W mounts as the example because a lot of guys are not as familiar with the C mounts as they are the 302/351W. if you include the C mounts there is sure to be difference whether the C uses the same mounts instead of getting the Q about the perches answered. i'll bet $2

Is there any chance that you have a '73 400 with the small block bell housing?

If I remember correctly, all the 400's came with a C-6, while the various 351's could be had with a C4, C6, or FMX.

The 400s came with C6s. The 351Ws came with C4 and maybe others like the 'baby' C6. The 351Ms were not produced until 1975. While the 400s had the 'big block' bell housing bolt pattern, there were some 400s made in 1973 with the 'small block' bell housing. I believe these had the FMX and they were used in '73 Rancheros. These are rare and valuable blocks.

The 400 motor mounts have 3 bolts that are at an angle, the 351C is like the windors family with 2 bolts straight up.

Tim,

Does the FMX block have mounts like the Cleveland/Windsor blocks or the 351M/400/429/460?

Where exactly are the casting numbers on the block? Where do I find info for decifering them because I am assuming they won't just give me the date and so forth right? I did compare the bolt pattern for the motor mounts and the 351m on my other truck has them different. So, I went to autozone and purchased a set for a 302 to go in a truck and the ones they gave me do match the bolt pattern. Hopefully they will work. I have not tried to install the engine because I gave it a good cleaning and wanted to paint it before putting it in. I also checked the spark plugs and they look very clean (no oil signs). I hope that is a good sign. One thing that does worry me is that the port where you plug the oil pressure sensor was wide open. It seems they ran the engine like that. Should I be expecting problems because of this? The orifice was quite dirty. In which direction does the oil circulate in this engine? The orifice was facing the rear cam bearing and a passage that went to the front of the engine.

if they ran the engine like that it'd be out of oil in about 5 seconds. they probably removed the sender that they needed to stay with the car, or it had a fitting and line to a gauge.

casting code should be near the starter if it's a Cleveland, and there is a casting date code there also. stamped in the block near the timing pointer is the engine build date code.

That's pretty strange because the hole was filled with dirt and grime as if nothing was there (sensors or fittings). Yet, the spark plugs do look very well used. The engine looked just like a normal old engine with some oil leaks comming from the valve covers and so forth with the normal wear and tear. This is all the numbers I could find. 1J13 and D2AE-CA . What does this mean.
