4 wheel drive? 78 f150

ok, my dad has recently bought a 78 f150 from a friend he works with. his friend told him that the 4 wheel drive works on it fine and their are no problems with the truck. we tried getting the 4WD to work on it but we are completly new to older trucks and have no idea what to do, can anyone shed some light on this matter for us, thanx.

Make sure the Transfer case is fully in 4 wheel drive. When I got my truck my T-case was a little stiff. just had to keep switching between 2wd and 4wd.

4 hi and 4 low dont work, when u shift into 4 low, none of the tires spin at all, it just revs the engine. lol i think his truck is screwed up.

I believe your shift pattern on your transfer case will be:
4 low
neuteral
2 high
4 high
With the shifter all the way forward, you will be in 4 low
with it all the way back it will be in 4 high
one stop or click forward is 2 high, two stops or clicks is in neuteral. I suspect you are not getting all of the way forward into 4 low.
Make sure both hubs are turned to the "LOCK" position and shift from 2 high to 4 high (pull shifter back toward the seat). This can be done while the truck is moving, and should go in with very little trouble if any. To shift to 4 low, the truck should be stopped, shift through 2 high, neuteral and to 4 low. You may have to slowly let out the clutch to get the gears to mesh to get into 4 low.
My experiance with these trucks is when something is broken bad enough to not go into 4 wheel drive, You will hear plenty of noise to let you know something is wrong.
