LineX & a Turnover Ball

OK...

I've been searching for an hour now...

I can't find any previous discussion about this...

I'm thinking about a new turnover ball in a new bed. Question is...Which comes first? The LineX coating? Or the hitch? & why?

You could do it either way, or have it set up to have the hitch in, take it loose, then bolt it back in when done so as to get under the hitch coated too. They can mask the hitch so it won't get coated where it needs to be loose, so it basically depends on how you want to do it. The only reason I can say without a doubt the hitch would need to be done first is that the drilling and cutting that is involved to mount it will damage the coating a bit, and can make it more difficult to do perhaps.

Well...

I guess this didn't turn into a hot topic.

On the other hand, the one response confirmed my own thinking. Thanks Henro.

Now I'm wondering if the LineX will stick reliably to the flat end of the ball piece. The hitch would be nearly invisible when not in use...

If prepped properly, it should stick to about anything...

I'd do the installation first for the same reasons already stated. Plus you can have them mask all or part of the turn over ball.

Funny you started this poll. I just dropped my truck off to have a Turnover Ball installed. I had the bed lined about 7 months ago.

Why don't you call the Line-X dealer, and ask them which would work better?

I did. He said it made no difference to him. Ball first means the liner material covers up any edges from the install. LineX first means they simply cut through it during install.

Glad to see this post. I'm getting ready for my Line-X the end of this week (hopefully) and will be installing the turnover next week.

I did the hitch first and Line-X after. Looks great and everything is coated. As you said, when not in use, it is completely un-noticed. Glad I did it this way.
