"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Flatt and Scruggs (does banjo count?)

-the remake of the song was great, too, and featured tons of musical talent.

OK, for pure guitar work, nobody, but nobody touches SRV's "Leave my Girl Alone."

I also agree with SRV but my favorite is 'Little Wing' ... Stevie doing 'Lenny' on the 'Live at the El Mocambo' DVD is quite a treat, and Voodoo Child on the '85 Montreux DVD is very good as well.

Actually, all of Stevie's work is my favorite.

R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan!

Preach it brother!

It would take me months to answer this question though. You have a very good top three. I will say though that the best living guitar player is probably trey anastatio (im sure i butchered his last name). I dont really like that type of music all that much, im just talking on a pure skill level point of view. Runner up is probably the satch, you dont mess with the satch.

Rikky Scaggs, Brand new strings
Roy Clark, Racin the mule
Jerry Reed, Just about any song he plays
Brad Paisley, The World(Really plays like he has 30 fingers in this one)
This list could go on for a LOOOOONG time....(Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Hank Sr. , ETC....)

This really is a pure opinion topic, but I'm a true expert in opinions on this subject.

Stevie Ray Vaughn "Voodoo Chile" - check him out on Austin City Limits. Damn, it's spooky how good he was. He had the mystical connection between thought and sound.

Best technical guitarist - tossup between Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani. Buy the 2nd G3 album or the DVD -"Live in Denver" and tell me these guys aren't the fastest slingers in the world. Not the greatest composers, however.

Of course, if you can't write good songs you'll always be a sideman. Eddie Van Halen - best songwriting guitarist. Maybe Jimmy Page a close 2nd.

Best guitarists paired with worst singing - toss out Mark Knopfler and Ted Nugent.

All the new guitar players need to stand up to the test of time first.
