shocks for a 55?

I was wondering what kind of shocks are best to run on my 55. I will be lowering it soon, and was wondering if I should wait. Will they have to be longer/shorter depending on height? What are some good brands to go with? Ive never shopped for shocks before.....Yes I AM a toddler in the art of building hot rods. But I LOVE IT!

Thanks guys!

after you get the truck lowered where you want it measure the length from upper mount to lower mount and subtract the distance between
rubber bumper and axel. Then get a shock that colapsed is slightly shorter than this.Auto parts stores have a book that lists shock length.
