An AOD tranny would be a major plus too
I'm minutes away from pulling the SBC from my 36, and the cab is ready to come off too, but before I pull the cab I want to set up the engine and tranny, build the mounts and crossmember.
I'd buy a factory roller engine if the price were right, but just something to use for a few weeks would be great...it'll come back you all steamed cleaned and grease free! An AOD would be cool too, but I think I have a C4 out back I can use to make up a temp mount to get an idea of what to make and locate it later.
Anywhere close to Modesto/Oakdale/etc.

If nothing else works - I have a 302, but it is under my work bench and it would take several weeks for me to get to it. It has a 4 speed so you would need to find a tranny, and the heads are off it.
To bad we didn't talk this over - I picked it up a 2 months ago a few miles from you, and do not need it for at least a year. Would have been nice to have help, and somewhere to store it.

Heck, there's always room over here!
Right now I'm just looking for something to set it up and such, end results will most likely be a 1pc RMS factory roller engine. It just makes things simple. I think I recall yo mentioning you were close by.
Thanks Dan,
That's a drive though just for what i want.
I went through craigs list and there's a 89 Cougar with the EFI 5.0, only 500 for the car, won't pass smog...but dang, I hate to have another skeleton around.

You could try the wrecking yards for a core. I paid $125 for a roller cam core out of a '93 T-bird, and started it up before I pulled it. Had a good knock from a hydraulic'd rod, but all it needs is one rod and a piston and it's complete from oilpan to throttle body. He even let me have the Mass Air sensor and the computer. It's definitely good for a builder motor.
You might find a junk block for next to nothing. There was an old rusty 302 block laying out in the field behind my house from a previous owner, I used that for the mock-up for my Ranger. Check the local machine shops, they may have junk blocks that are cracked or too far gone to bore.
Or you could spend like 400 bucks for one of those plastic mock-up blocks...!

Lol, just want a light weight V8, maybe 200-225 HP.
I saw those plastic engines, I did come across a site for 295 plus shipping. Just too mucj money for 20 pounds of plastic I'll use once.
Hadn't ckecked the bone yards yet, a few years ago they all wanted 600 and up for a T-5 when i was loking for convert my old Chevy, just figured they'ed be high on engines as well.
