i am in the process of the volare front end but i dont know what rear end to use. i was told the volare rear end was too wide to fit a 8 inch rim on but then how does this work out in the front and why do you need a shorter axle in the back?

An eight inch rim with a 255 wide tire fits almost perfectly in stock fender opening with the proper backspace. There is little room for error. If you stray far from the stock axle width, you have to account for it with custom backset rims. I am under the impression that the Chrysler axle normally associated with the Volare is too narrow, rather than too wide as your post stated. I would not be surprised if there was an early eighties Chrysler rearend with the proper width and bolt pattern. You will still have a rearend that falls miserably short of a Ford 9 inch though. They weren't quite good enough for a smogger 318. What are intending to put in the engine compartment?

9" rearends that would be the right size are 57-72 F100's will bolt in but you would have to have the axles redrilled. Look for a 9" from a 61-64 Ford Galaxy, 68-71 fairlane/Torino/Ranchero, and a 71-73 Mustang. These are all about 60-61" wide.

 

but what is the width for the volare front end??

Looks like 61 inches but I measured without pulling my tires. Real close to that in any event.

My 54 has a 71 dodge 1/2 ton rear end 8 1/4 in. 3:23 ratio. Works fine and has been slightly abused.
