harmonic balancer removel on a 4.0?

How do you remove a harmonic balancer on a 91 Ranger 4.0 engine? It is not like balancers I have seen before. My Ford shop manual says to use
T74P-6316-A remover. I have a Snap on puller kit, but I cannot seem to make it work no matter what I do. Need help. Thanks.

The threads in the balancer are metric. Nobody sells bolts (ok cap screws) long enough to use most standard pullers. Go get some threaded rod, cut it to however long it needs to be, and get four nuts, and some washers. Jam the nuts together on the one end, put the washers on, and assemble with your puller. You know what to do from there.

IIRC the right metric size is M7 or something like that.

The center bolt on my puller is to large to go through the hole in the damper. It has to go through the hole to reach the end of the crank.

ok...

You're doing it wrong. You put the crank bolt back in a couple threads, and turn the puller down on that. That should get it close enough that a few blows with a rubber mallet should take it off.

Doing it like you were trying could result in bunged up threads in the crank nose.

I found out all you have to do is use a 3/8" X 5" bolt and slide it in the
damper bolt hole so that it bottoms out in the crank bolt hole. Then use a regular balancer puller to push against the the 3/8" bolt. Real simple.
And no special tools.
