How Do You Get Door Hinge Pins Out?

I've tried pounding with a drift pin and nothing budges. An old autobody guy tells me that they heated them to red-hot and then drove them out. Even though these 49 F3's are "Ford Tough" I would rather not apply that much heat to the hinges.
Thanks,

How Do You Get Door Hinge Pins Out?

Did mine the hard way in order to get new mirrors on the top hinges. I haven't done the bottom pins yet.

You can try the clamp type pushers sold by several vendors, but I've heard they are mostly ineffective.

Tape a sheet of thin cardboard to the door to avoid paint disasters. Grind the cap off the pin and apply PBlaster or similar juice and try the pin punch again from the bottom. I finally resorted to drilling them out as far as a drill bit would reach, then used a welding rod to punch the remaining pin shell thru the bottom. The pin is fairly soft and drills ok.

The top section of the pin is knurled and that rusts tight to the top hinge section. In addition the pin can be so worn that steps into the offsets of the hinge.

Heat would be effective, but would be hard on paint. Good luck - tim

Here's what I did on my '51 for new mirrors:

Soak w/ WD-40
Drive upwards w/a punch
Grind off the head
Soak again w/WD-40
Drive down
Grind off any of the "peened" tail that you were able to expose
Soak AGAIN w/ WD-40
Have a beer (while the WD-40 does it's thing)
Have another beer
Drive pin up and out

Repeat on other door

Good luck

I ground off the head and used an air hammer to drive out the top one. the bottom one is a bit more stubborn, may have to go the drill route on that one.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'll be starting the banging, grinding, soaking, refreshment, banging, etc. until I get those things out.
Trying to get some pictures together of my pile of parts for the gallery.
Thanks Again
