Radius arm bushing replacment....a true story.........

Radius arm bushing replacement on 1988 4x4 Ranger.
Materials required:
1 Ranger pickup requiring radius arm bushing replacement
1 set of radius arm bushings
1 crow bar
1 open end wrench to fit radius arm nuts
1 case of beer (explanation later)
1 bottle of scotch (explanation later)
1 credit card (explanation later)
1 shop with concrete floor
1 come along (fence puller for you newbies)
1 empty cuss box (ask the old timers about this)

Procedure:
Give better half credit card with instructions not to return until at least 8 hours later
Move Ranger into shop with concrete floor
Crawl under truck to inspect radius arms
Cuss about hot catalytic converter
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $1 into cuss box
Crawl under truck
Place wrench on radius arm nut to loosen
Cuss about how tight nut is.
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $2 into cuss box
Crawl back under truck and loosen radius arm nut.
Remove radius arm nut
Cuss about radius arm slamming against frame
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $3 into cuss box
Crawl from under truck
Remove radius arm nut,bushing,,and washer
Cuss about getting finger pinched between radius arm and frame
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $4 into cuss box
Crawl under truck
Kick tire forward to move radius arm forward
Radius arm pops out of alignment hole
Cuss excessivly
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $5 into cuss box
Crawl under truck,use crowbar to pry down radius arm
Remove front radius arm bushing
Cuss about getting fingers pinched
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $6 into cuss box
Crawl back under truck
Use crowbar to pry down radius arm
Install new front radius arm bushing
Use crowbar to pry down radius arm to install new front radius arm bushing and move radius bushing to the rear of the truck to seat bushing (hopefully)
Bushing wont seat
Cuss again
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $7 into cuss box
Drink more beer
Crawl back under truck and hook up fence puller to move radius arm and wheel into position to install new rear radius arm bushing
Bushings wont line up
Crawl from under truck
Drink another beer
Cuss
Deposit $8 into cuss box
Crawl back under truck
Tighten fence puller and use crowbar to align bushings
Bushings wont line up
Tighten fence puller more
Cuss more
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $9 into cuss box
Drink another beer
Crawl under truck
Use more force on crowbar
Voila!!!!
Bushings line up and snap in place (if you are lucky)
Crawl from under truck
Drink beer
Crawl under truck
Install washer and nut and start to tighten
Cuss about nut being tight
Crawl from under truck
Deposit $10 into cuss box
Drink beer again
Crawl under truck
Tighten nut as tight as you can.
Check to make sure everything is seated properly
Everything ok
Crawl from under truck
Open bottle of scotch
Drink scotch
Be thrilled the right side is done !!!!
Now comes the left side radius arm bushings , and the better half is on her way home……it’s only been 6 hours…….and having run up the bill on the credit card…….DRINK SCOTCH…………..EXCESSIVLEY
Catch hell from the better half for spending too much time on vehicle maintenance
Drink more scotch………….It helps lessen the pain delivered from the better half

Very good. Quite amusing, but pretty much covers anything that requires the slightest effort.

Forget giving the better half a credit card, give her Christmas decorations!

Wonder how many folks know what a cuss box is??
