seems like when i trun the wheel there is a quiet but noticable whinning sound comming from the steering wheel shaft and wondering if anyone has any thoughts, i checked the power steering fluid and its seems ok so any help would be great thanks
i would guess the noise is coming from the steering pump. probably not a problme as long as if functions and dont leak on the ground. might be worth sucking the oil out and putting new in to see if it helps some.

Ford power steering systems are simply noisy. The older they get, the noisier they get. I would agree with FX4 with flushing the system and putting some clean fluid in there. It could help. But unfortunately without drastic replacement of major steering parts (pump for one), it's going to be noisy. As long as it's not dropping a ton of fluid on the ground, I'd leave it be until/if it actually dies.
I have the same noise in my truck. It sounds like the shaft to me too. I agree with the comments about the PS system noise, but I think this is something different.
