1997 f-150 keyless entry
A couple of quick questions about the keyless entry system in a 1997 f-150.
My dad recently got the vehicle, it came with power locks but no keyless entry keyfobs. Is there an easy way to tell if the vehicle is equipped for keyless entry and we just weren't given the keyfobs?
If this vehicle does have keyless entry how can you program the keyfobs to work with it? I have two fobs and a stick on keypad from my 1999 f-250 SD that just got totalled and I would like to program them to work on this truck if possible. The manual for the truck says to take it to a service shop, but I know on my truck it was easy to program them by turning the ignition on and off a certain number of times and then using the keyfobs to lock the doors.
If anyone on here could help me out I would appreciate it.

I don't know how to tell if your truck was originally keyless equipped but here are the directions to program the remotes:
I copied it from another site.
To program the transmitters yourself:
1. Insert a key in the ignition and turn from 3(Off) to 4(On) eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the 4(On) position.
2. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
3. Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
4. Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
5. When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn th ignition to 3(Off) or wait 20 seconds. Again the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.

Regta, that was the process for programming them for my 1999 f-250, I tried it on the 1997 f-150 and it did not work. I have the paperwork from the keyless entry keypad that tells you how to program a bunch of different vehicles but it doesn't mention 1997 f-150s only 1998 and up.
Kingranchman, the keys have the long hole centered across the top of the key. I think the offset key like you are talking about is the PATS keys and I don't think they had them in the 150's in 97. I could be wrong though.
I was just wondering if I could look up under the dash for a certain brain box for it or something?

1997 used a different keyless system and required 5 cycles of the key rather than 8. If it has keyless then the door locks will cycle when you get to the 5th KeyON cycle within 10 seconds. It will also have a RAP module mounted under the dash against the firewall to the left side. They used different Keyless remotes as well. They are rather hard to find and more expensive than the later ones. Many of the early production F150 did not have keyless entry and just have relay driven power door locks.

A stick on keypad????? I thought they were hard wired and mounted in a hole cut in the door????????? I'd like to know more about these stick-on door keypads, was it factory?
If your fobs have the part # 2L3T-15K601-AA they will likely program to his truck. I posted a comprehensive listing of what vehicles this part number works on but I can't seem to search and find it, and I didn't save it on my pc.

Just go to the Ford Parts Department and ask for that rediculously overpriced Keypad accessory.. LOL About 125.00 last I checked. 
Im sure if you hunt around Ebay you will find them cheaper. All it is, is a keyless remote that programs into your system just like your portable remotes, with a keypad and a 5 digit code to make it work.
Fair warning here too... once you stick it on and the adhesive cures, that badboy is ON! It will take a prybar to remove it!
