Under Hood Exhaust Leak

Under Hood Exhaust Leak
So I've been putting off asking for a long time because it seems like this will be hard to diagnose remotely but I thought someone might have some insight.
It certainly does seem like I have an exhaust leak under-hood. Exhaust in when the HVAC is on vent. One time I had a failed start that ended in a bunch of smoke coming out from under the hood. At first I thought something had caught fire and I was preparing to loose the truck - When I poped the hood it was jsut diesel smoke. I've had my hands all over the Turbo/Downpipe couple and it does not appear to be coming from there. I really don't seem to hear any exhaust leak. Does anyone care to guess where this may be coming from. I also checked all-over the Passenger manifold but it seems like the Driver manifold is harder to get near.
The Amount of Smoke under the hood on that one failed start seems odd - I've never noticed smoke from under the hood on any other smokey start but I suppose that may be because of the fan running.

I am having the exact same problem.....the problem is bad en enough that I don't use my truck anymore.....cause it smells of diesel for days on my clothes....I was told to look at manifolds, turbo...and EBPV....but here in the Yukon...it's about -5 degrees F....and I don't have a shop....no way I'm going to work in that cold.

I have to admit that my problem doesn't sound as bad as your's. I am willing to let it sit at a light with the heat on and you can certainly smell exhaust but even still you can't smell it on your clothes afterwards. On the highway it's a non issue. I wonder if you might not have a fuel leak?

Odds are it is your turbo up pipes, one or both. Those things are notorious for leaking, and they are an awful design. There is a company out there that is making a replacement version that eliminates the leaky joints, but for some reason I misplaced the link. Kwik in the supderduty forum has it though i think. Last time i looked, they only had prototypes and weren't ready for production, but that was 6 months ago so they may be ready now.
