2003 F150 Fuel Filter

I don't normally work on my truck, but I am wanting to change the fuel filter. I have a 2003 F150, 4.6L. Where is the fuel filter located in relation to the engine? How easy is it to change it myself?

It is on the inside of the frame more or less under the drivers door. You also need a special fuel line tool to release the clamps. Get the metal one from NAPA it works better than the plastic ones. They can be hard to get off and you may need to spray WD-40 in the fitting and spin the tool in it a bit to get the filter to come off.

welcome to the FORD forum Ikey. If you dont know what your doing, changing th efilter can take a couple hours the first time. I would buy it at Aoto Zone or other auto store and talk to the counter guy for a few minutes. This is not a screw driver and hose clamp job. THE new filters have 30-50 psi pressure inside and the fittings are a push on compression fitting. You do need a special "tool" to get it to come loose. They can be difficult to get apart.

You will also need to bleed off the pressure in the system before removing the lines or you will have fuel spray everywhere!!!

forgot about the pressure, easiest way is to remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine over a few times. You will still get fuel on you but the pressure should be relieved.

I just pull the filter off.

Just watch your eyes, gas won't kill you.
